Artist's Comments

This was a fun journey. I finished the "Mad Men" dress a week before my internship ended and I had to fill the time with another project.
Enter the Martin Margiela pattern. This pattern is up for free on the website. Issued as a challenge for aspiring designers it contains no instructions, no sizes, no nothing.

You will print the pages and realize that the paper's not long enough so you go back and crop out unnecessary white space in photoshop for hours one night. You'll tape them together and wonder why you ever did this. You'll buy fabric and curse your life. And when you finally sew it together with standard 5/8" seams, you end up with a gothic muumuu. I'm not kidding you.

Later, after you increase the allowances you'll make it fit better. It's more of a gothic sack now. At this point, you'll say "screw it" and sew a belt.

And you're done!

Fabric: Black cotton twill
Velvet pumps by Christian Louboutin

For no instructions this turned out beautifully! It sounds like you had some infuriating experiences making this but it worked in the end. :D It has a nice shape to it.
