Finding art again

Mon Oct 5, 2009, 12:16 AM
  • Mood: Triumph
  • Listening to: I'll Be Seeing You
  • Reading: my french essay
  • Watching: nuttin'
  • Playing: the essay writing game.
  • Eating: wishing I had a brownie
  • Drinking: water
I found my artistic side again. I'm not sure how I finally found it, but I know I had to do a lot of searching. It disappeared for a while back in 2007, came back to me in 2008, only to depart in the middle of the night just when I got used to it again. Since then it'd visited me now and then but for the most part, I was unsatisfied with the majority of my work.
Perhaps I found it when I freed myself. Maybe I found it the night I put my camera in the fridge around 5 AM and rescued it a few minutes later.
I've been encouraged by friends to get artistic again... and this time, I feel like I finally found it. I feel like I value my art better, now.
Perhaps the environment is finally what I needed.
I've thought a lot about my late photo teacher. Back when I was a freshman, she recommended I look into Mills College - "someday," she told me. Three months into freshman year and she knew.
After I'd settled down after moving in, I turned on my laptop to listen to music. "I'll Be Seeing You" came on, a song I used in a little presentation about Esther Bubley that year. The way everything was at that exact moment, I knew that I ended up in the right place.

I commend you on this tremendous rediscovery.

My teacher once asked me, "If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump too?". And somewhere in the back of my head, I thought; this would be the LAST person I'd ask to come with me on a bungee jumping trip.
